Aid...
Belarus Aid is the 14th
group under Medicine and Chernobyl and concentrates on helping the disadvantaged of Belarus (West Russia). Each year since
1994 humanitarian aid has been transported (by road) to Belarus for orphanages and hospitals.
2006 is the 20th year since that dreadful day when the nuclear reactor at the
Chernobyl power station in the Ukraine exploded, and a cloud of radioactive dust was blown northwest across Belarus. Many
people think that the country has overcome the problems, or that their own Government should have sorted the problems themselves.
Unfortunately, this is not the case.
More than 2 million people, including hundreds of thousands of children are still
living in the contaminated areas of the country. Due to the poor economic situation, the people eat what they produce from
the polluted land, thus exposing themselves to further risk from radiation.
So far 8 convoys have been
out to Belarus, taking aid to various hospitals and orphanages.
In they have completed three
successful projects when a residential school / orphanage for disabled children, a children’s hospital and the main
hospital in Mir were renovated. There commitment is to maintain the Projects we have already done by providing cleaning
materials on an ongoing basis.
